《同調の堆積》

　学校、職場、家庭など、こういった環境において、「空気を合わせる」とは、何を意味するのだろう。その積み重ねは、感情を抑え込む習慣となり、自己との距離を広げていくのではないでしょうか。こうした行為は、社会のなかで無自覚に繰り返されている現象の一つとも捉えられます。

　現代社会における感情の抑圧は、構造的で過度な同調圧力の中で育まれ、「我慢は美徳」とされる空気とも無関係ではないように思います。私自身、そうした環境のなかで「自分が自分でなくなる」ような感覚を覚えたことがあります。こうした状態は心理学では「情動抑制（emotion suppression）」と呼ばれ、長期的にはストレスの蓄積や心身の不調リスクを高めることが知られています。

　このような問題意識をもとに、私は感情の蓄積や、無自覚な同調が折り重なる構造を視覚的に可視化することを試みています。制作では、同一形式の反復や構成の密度といった要素に着目しています。

　刺繍糸は、一針ずつ線を積み上げていく行為そのものが「反復」と「蓄積」の構造を内包しており、糸の太さや重なり、縫い目の方向、密度といった物理的要素は、視覚的なリズムや濃淡を生み出すとともに、構造の中に微細な揺らぎや差異を生じさせます。こうした構造に、表面からは見えにくいかたちで感情や同調が蓄積されていく社会のありようを重ね合わせています。

　聞こえにくい「声」や社会との「ずれ」に着目し、内面化された規範や価値観を可視化することで、感情の抑圧を個人の問題にとどめず、社会構造の問題として捉え直す契機となり得るのではないかと考えています。

《Accumulation of Conformity》

What does it mean to "go along with the atmosphere" — in schools, workplaces, and homes? The accumulation of such moments may form a habit of suppressing emotion, gradually widening the distance between oneself and one's inner self. This behavior can be understood as one of the phenomena unconsciously repeated within society.

Emotional suppression in contemporary society is nurtured within structures of excessive conformity pressure, and may not be entirely unrelated to an atmosphere in which "endurance is virtue." I myself have experienced a sense of losing myself within such an environment. This state is known in psychology as "emotion suppression," and it is understood to carry long-term risks of stress accumulation and physical and mental health deterioration.

Drawing from this awareness, I attempt to visually render the structure in which emotions accumulate and unconscious conformity layers upon itself. In my practice, I focus on the repetition of identical forms and the density of composition.

Embroidery thread inherently embodies the structures of "repetition" and "accumulation" through the very act of building lines stitch by stitch. The physical elements — the weight of thread, its overlapping, the direction of stitches, and their density — generate visual rhythm and gradation, while also producing subtle fluctuations and variations within the structure. Onto this structure, I overlay the nature of a society in which emotion and conformity accumulate in ways that are difficult to perceive from the surface.

By attending to voices that are hard to hear and the sense of misalignment with society, I hope this work may serve as an opportunity to reconsider emotional suppression not as an individual problem, but as one embedded in social structure.
